What our students are saying

From the academy site

  • I’ve been attending Jiu Jitsu classes at AMAC since February and absolutely love it. The coaches and students are very welcoming, supportive and go out of their way to give individual attention and coaching to students. It can be very intimidating to try a new sport like Jiu Jitsu but AMAC makes it a comfortable and easy process.

  • I’ve been training at the school for about 7 years now and it’s absolutely one of the best parts of every week. I’ve been training in martial arts for most of my life and have personally found BJJ to be one of the most useful in terms of practical application as it focuses on body mechanics instead of brute strength. On top of that everyone who trains here is extreamly respectful as this is a close contact sport and cares about each other. A class doesn’t go by where someone doesn’t laugh and you can see how much everyone enjoys there time here. It’s not just the students either, all the instructors are incredibly skilled and truly care about every one of us getting the best BJJ education we can.

  • I couldn’t imagine a better place to come as a complete beginner, man or woman. I can give no higher compliment than that they know exactly when to be serious and when to have fun. There are facilities closer to my home now, but I wouldn’t go anywhere else to train as long as I have a choice.

First class questions

Questions they already answer

Do I have to be in shape to start training?

No — the training will get you in shape. Joining a martial arts school is a journey, and they want it to be a safe and successful one. You set your own pace. You are not expected to keep up with the experienced students.

Do I have to have previous experience? What if I am a beginner?

No previous experience is required. Anyone is welcome. The academy says it loves beginners, and the goal is to make you comfortable and turn anyone into a well-trained martial artist.

What if my body can’t do certain things?

Bodies differ. If yours won’t do something, they modify it. Some techniques are still worth learning so you can recognize them. Sometimes a gentle stretch of practice opens an area back up. Sometimes you adapt to the stage of life you are in.

Which martial art is right for me?

One where you have fun, learn something new every class, and feel a real sense of progression. The instructor is what makes a class great. You can learn one or more arts here and stay in a friendly room.

What if I’m not very flexible?

Everyone is different. They teach a wide range of techniques for all ages and abilities, so you can use the ones you like and develop your own style.

How much are the classes?

Programs differ, and the price depends on how often you want to come. They recommend trying a free class to see if you like the training. This preview does not list prices.
